Our Navy Plain Apprentice Suit is made from a fine basket weave and is one of our most solid iterations of a classical navy suit. We’ve presented this suit in its most sleek form, so we’ve gone for the business preset with a slim fit, and jetted pockets, and soft shoulders. If you wish to contrast the formal nature of the navy suit, consider having it made without lining and in a looser fit. Remember that you’re free to design this suit exactly as you like.

The basket weave brings out a relaxed aspect of wool, making for a robust and light cloth, with a beautifully soft drape. This particular basket weave from Vitale Barberis Canonico has a slight shine, which underscores the luxurious dark blue colour. It weighs around 290 g/m2, and is made from 100% wool.

This suit can be styled for any private or professional occasion as long as it is formal. To style it as groom, perhaps add a waistcoat in a contrasting light colour like creme, a white shirt and a unicoloured tie. Then some black or brown leather shoes, preferably not suede, and your preferred accessories; pocket square, boutonnière and cufflinks. Now for business, this suit should be worn with either a white shirt and a Macclesfield tie, or a light but elegant shirts, f.ex. dusty pink. The trousers are fairly straightforward to wear as separates, most shirts, knits, and overskirts will look good, but the jacket is rather difficult to pull off on its own, but we encourage you to take on the challenge.

This special fabric comes from the Italian textile mill Vitale Barberis Canonico. The Barberis Canonico family has been producing fabrics since 1663, maintaining traditions and adapting early to industrious trends such as electrification at the beginning of the 20th century. This commitment to craftsmanship is apparent in their fabrics, such as this luxurious basket weave, which is a modern, practical and beautiful iteration of what wool can be.
