When it comes to choosing fabrics for a suit, there are many factors to consider. In stores, we offer more than 11.000 different fabrics. So where to start with this many options? Start by considering following 3 things.
Occasion
The first thing to consider is the occasion. Is it for business, or for a special occasion like a wedding? Are you the groom or a wedding guest? Or are you simply looking for a good basic suit that can take you anywhere from the office to parties and other special occasions? Understanding the purpose of your suit will help guide you towards the right fabric.
Season
Next, think about the season. Do you need the suit for a specific occasion in summer or winter, or are you looking for a versatile suit that can be worn year-round?
Fabric weight
Finally, consider the weight of the fabrics. When it comes to suit fabrics, weight is an important consideration. The weight of a fabric is determined by its density, which is measured in grams per square meter (g/m2). Generally, the weight of a fabric is correlated with its thickness, durability, and drape.
Fabric weights explained
180–250 g/m2
Light-weight
These fabrics are great for warm weather, as they allow air to circulate and keep the wearer cool. Lightweight fabrics tend to be thinner and more breathable, making them comfortable to wear in hot and humid conditions.
260–370 g/m2
Medium-weight
