When Andreas Weinås came to us with his vision, he wanted a hybrid dinner jacket that pushed boundaries—something classic yet modern, formal yet versatile. The result? A black dinner jacket crafted from luxurious doeskin fabric by Loro Piana, renowned for its soft, fluffy texture. Ideal for the colder months, this fabric transforms the piece into a unique hybrid that transitions effortlessly into casual ensembles.

To bring his idea to life, we omitted the traditional satin lapels, opting for a sleek, fabric-matched finish. The choice of fabric, paired with the absence of satin on the lapels, enhances the jacket’s versatility, making it adaptable for both formal tuxedo trousers and more relaxed, casual styling.
As Andreas mentioned in his Instagram post, “Black is back! At least in my rotation. I still avoid it for fine worsted suits but have grown very fond of its simplicity for jackets, shirts and jeans. The key for me with black is playing with different textures and formality in one’s outfit.”
The Casual Styling
For the casual styling, Andreas Weinås paired the hybrid dinner jacket with his Cream Cricket Flannel Trousers from a previous collection we designed together. Crafted from soft, comfortable flannel fabric, these trousers are perfect for staying warm through winter. Their versatility makes them an excellent match for a variety of jackets, adding a touch of sophistication to any look. To complete the look, Andreas added a black cashmere crew neck, offering both warmth and a casual, yet elegant look. Black loafers are the ideal footwear choice to complete this effortlessly sophisticated ensemble.
Don’t be afraid to wear this look on a casual evening out. You can easily dress it down with a white t-shirt underneath or elevate it slightly with some black knitwear for a more stylish touch.
The Black Tuxedo Styling
For the tuxedo styling, the combination is timeless—he paired the dinner jacket with classic black tuxedo trousers featuring the characteristic satin stripe along the sides. Completing the look is our white Superior Twill journey shirt, designed with a plain front for shirt studs and a regular collar for a sleek, polished finish. Of course, no tuxedo ensemble is complete without the final touch: a black silk bow tie.
In order to elevate your tuxedo game to the next level, you should swap out the black loafers for a classic pair of patent leather shoes. This way, you emphasize that this is a genuine tuxedo outfit, and even the hybrid dinner jacket will align with the more traditional idea of a classic tuxedo.
What is a dinner jacket?
A dinner jacket, commonly known as a tuxedo jacket, is a formal jacket typically worn for evening events, such as black-tie dinners, galas, or weddings. It is distinguished by its satin or silk lapels, a formal shirt, and often features a black or midnight blue color.
Can a dinner jacket be in other colors?
Yes, while the classic dinner jacket is typically black or midnight blue, there are several alternative colors available today. Common options include:
- White or Ivory – Perfect for summer events or warmer climates, often worn for weddings or tropical destination celebrations.
- Midnight Blue – A slightly more formal and deeper alternative to black, often considered more elegant under artificial lighting.
- Velvet or Patterned – Velvet jackets or those with subtle patterns like jacquard or brocade offer a more fashion-forward and distinctive look.
- Burgundy, Navy, or Other Dark Tones – These colors can offer a modern take on the classic dinner jacket while still maintaining a formal appearance.
Can I wear a dinner jacket to non-formal events?
While a dinner jacket is traditionally reserved for formal events, it can be styled more casually for less formal occasions. Pairing it with a white t-shirt or black knitwear, for example, can create a more relaxed, yet still stylish, look suitable for a night out.
