The Blake Stitch Construction

In Blake stitching, a single line of stitching connects the insole, upper, and outsole, directly attaching the sole to the upper. This method is quicker and easier to make compared to Goodyear welted shoes. It also creates a lighter shoe, and usually, there is no cork filling. Blake stitching is ideal for those who want a flexible, lightweight shoe with a clean, modern look.

The Goodyear Welt Construction

The process begins by preparing the upper, where skilled workers cut and stitch the leather or fabric to fit the foot, then add a soft lining for comfort. Next, they create the insole from leather or synthetic material to provide support and improve comfort.

Then, the welt, a strip of leather or rubber, is carefully attached to the upper and insole through stitching, forming a solid base for the sole. After that, the sole is selected—leather for style or rubber for durability—and securely stitched to the welt, creating a strong connection.

Once the shoe is shaped, final touches like polishing and quality checks are done to ensure a flawless finish. The result is a shoe known for its strength, comfort, and ability to be resoled, making it last for many years.
